PURPOSE

ACRES (the Academic Curriculum Review and Evaluation System) is an electronic means for creating, routing, evaluating and approving new courses, course modifications, and course deletions within an institution.

  • It allows faculty, staff and administrators to share information about course changes, and to access course information for various uses within their institutions. It also provides a means by which course information could be fed electronically into the Arizona Course Equivalency Tracking System (ACETS) for transfer articulation processing.

DESCRIPTION

ACRES (the Academic Curriculum Review and Evaluation System) is an electronic means for creating, routing, evaluating and approving new courses, course modifications, and course deletions within an institution.

This is a online web tool with a SQL database back end. It allows Institutional Administrators to create their own forms, routing groups and user groups for evaluation of course curriculum. It has a variety of reports and query option for admin level users to track the progress of a course form. This tool is implemented at the following Arizona institutions: Arizona State University, Arizona Western College, Central Arizona College, Coconino Community College, Maricopa Community Colleges, Northland Pioneer College .

  • Faster time for course creation

Because the process of course and program evaluation is online, forms no longer get "lost" in the process. Each group (i.e. Curriculum Committee, Department Deans, etc.) is notified via email when a form is ready for evalution, then can complete the evaluation within the system.

No longer a paper process.

RESOURCES AND LESSONS LEARNED

Statewide server, two technical state staff, end user needs a web browser.

  • Each school pays annual dues based on institution size.

  • Online process greatly speeds up the time needed for course creation and review.
