IMPACTS:

An increased level of diversity education and awareness has enriched the students’ educational experience and promoted a healthier student body.

RESOURCES AND LESSONS LEARNED

LESSONS LEARNED:
  • Students are often very surprised and pleased to learn about the life and culture of the few international students we have at our institution.
  • Students probably come to the event initially because of the free lunch and the fact that some faculty offer extra credit points for attending.
  • It is important to get faculty buy-in as part of the promotional efforts for the event.

RESOURCES AND COSTS NEEDED:

Faculty/Staff who are interested in and willing to do the work of organizing and marketing the event (including the luncheon) and coordinating and helping to prepare the international students for their presentation.

COSTS
The cost of the luncheon (free to students) is the largest expense item.

FUTURE PLANS AND OTHER INFORMATION

FUTURE PLANS:

This program is successful enough that we plan to do it more than once per semester.
