The Admissions Promise program is an admissions program between 2 year and 4 year institutions, whereby a new, first time college student registers his/her intent to transfer to a local 4 year at the time that they apply to the 2 year college. The Admission Promise Program assists in student retention by identifying specific transfer interest at initial point of contact.

• Increased retention of students by identifying transfer goal early (at time of application to the two year college).
  
• Increased retention of students due to specific and objective goals/criteria of the program.
  
• Ease of transtion due to increased connectivity of the student to their desired four year institution while still attending the community college.
  
• Better advising based upon short term and long term academic goals, as the student has a two year and a four year advisor.
  
• Increased ability for the two year school to meet performance goals of increased degree attainment due to requirement of the program.

The Admissions Promise Program is designed to encourage 2 year students to research and select their four year transfer option as early as possible. In doing so, the student has a tangible goal, with specific criteria that must be earned at the two year college. Clear expectations lead to better understanding and fosters commitment to one's goals. In addition, the program eases student transtion from the 2 year to the 4 year, as the student is dually advised and invited to events at the 4-year while still attending the 2 year. The program is designed to increase degree attainment through the requirement that students must complete their Associate's degree in order to be eligible for the guaranteed admission at the 4 year. Additionally, the four year benefits from having a qualified pool of students for admissions which reduces their recruiting costs.

Although the Admissions Promise is still relatively new, students are selecting an Admissions Promise school at the time of application. We have thousands of students making a selection. We began our first Admissions Promise program in fall 2011, and thus, our first group of students will have just graduated with their Associate's degree. We will need to pull all of our data and then collaborate with the four year institution determine our final outcomes. Additionally, I would want to run the program for a couple of years before we report on the data so that we can analyze any anomolies.

It is not a joint admission program in the traditional sense, so be careful about verbiage.

Make sure the student criteria is clear from the beginning.

Limit 4 year selection to one choice only

Determine file sharing fields together so that the four year school gets the information that they need.

RESOURCES NEEDED

Collaboration between the two year and the four year institutions with agreed MOU detailing criteria/promise. No additional staff was needed. Initial school consisted of 10 hours of meeting time. Additional schools were completed much more quickly. Estimate 40 hours of IT development time for online application changes.

COSTS

A total of 50 hours of staff time for initial school. Approximately 2-5 hours for each additional school.

Currently, we have 4 Admissions Promise partnering schools. We have two other schools in the pipeline. We would like to expand this to all of our Colorado public four year institutions. Additionally, if the student does not select a school at the time of application, they cannot take advantage of the Admissions Promise program. We would like to find an electronic solution for students to be able to select during their first term of attendance.
